Seven days in the garret – day 2 update

Today has been an eye opener. Whereas yesterday was spent in the bliss of solitude, today had been a melee of phone calls and discussion. It turns out that my holiday from my day job isn’t really that, but an opportunity to hone my remote management skills. Seven phone calls later I arrive at teatime with a list of actions for tomorrow.

But I digress. This week is focused on writing. This morning started well. I awarded myself three hours work on the novel as the identity project is going well and I now have all my final research transcripts just waiting to bring the whole thing to a sculptured conclusion. Yesterday I edited my MC from fairly unsympathetic to sympathetic and concluded that I needed very few changes to do so. Shame real life isn’t like that, eh?

I’ve reach a crucial part in the novel, about a quarter way through, where the plot takes a turn and all the characters become involved. I’ve managed to keep Clementine’s desperate streak quite well under wraps so far, but now she’s about to launch herself in a risky love affair that will be steamy if not lasting!

I listened to Mink Deville’s Spanish Stroll and now have turned to Mr Big’s Romeo for tomorrow’s writing theme. Procrastination-wise, today held so many telephone related distractions that at one point I was talking on the land line and mobile at the same time. Even so I managed 2500 words on the novel and started chapter nine.

Looks like the identity book will have to wait for another day. I feel very excited about it now as it’s taking form. There are now three parts, Theory, Voice and Praxis and the concluding chapter is something fresh and new that binds the whole project together. Ironically, on a day when my faith in human nature has been shattered regarding equality issues by ignorance and delusion from an unexpected quarter, that’s exactly what I’m writing about.

Nothing stranger than life.
