The Big Zeroes – the ultimate blogging experience

This week I’ve embarked on a very exciting blogging experience – The Big Zeroes. Several women, all celebrating special birthdays in 2011, are blogging their ‘to do before my birthday’ list, and how they have achieved it.

As well as another opportunity to write regularly, this endeavour has made me think about lots of things. I’m not particularly perturbed by my ‘Big Birthday’ as, to me, time is just a concept and related to the multi-dimensional lifestyle we have – I’m under no illusions about my mortality. But creating my list made me think about my life, what was possible long ago, and what is possible now. At one time, I would have already been planning a huge party – now I’m, exhausted just thinking about it.

Instead, I wanted to mark the occasion with quiet reflection, so thinking about the blog has fulfilled this.

The blog itself includes six women who have met via various writing projects and through work, with the option for more to join as we go along. We currently live in the far flung reaches of the UK and New Zealand. The age range of the women taking part is 19 – 59 at the moment, although we are open to younger an older bloggers! The lists are up, and I was quite surprised to find that we have a few items in common! Lots of cooking and craft to-do’s, and travel. A few of us want a Brazilian Wax and most of us want to spend more time with friends. There are various spiritual aspirations and lifestyle changes.

It’s a fantastic opportunity for me to take part in this blog with other writers, I feel the blow of getting older cushioned by knowing other women’s anxieties about aging and celebrations of life.
